Cork offers an excellent quality choice, as it is non-slip and does not overheat in the sun. It is cut for easy installation. Easy to maintain, it can be washed in sea water.

The sensations of cork

Tested since 2021 on the SeaZen in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, cork has been acclaimed by users. It now comes as standard on new boats, to benefit from its main advantages:

  • Insulating, it heats less and doesn't burn feet in midsummer. It's very pleasant to lie on the deck.
  • Non-slip. For safety at sea, especially in rain or spray.
  • Easy to repair.

Assembly

Cork is supplied in kit form as rolls to be laid using the assembly method and videos provided.

This starts with cleaning the deck and priming if necessary. You'll also need a good cutter and a trowel. Glue is supplied. Depending on the region of installation, temperatures and humidity can cause cork dimensions to vary. When the temperature is lower than the standard installation conditions, the material expands, which is easy to compensate for by trimming off any excess at the time of installation. At higher temperatures, the material shrinks. This is why the cutting has to be local. This operation does not require complex tools, but it must be carried out with care.

A final coating of saturator is necessary to protect the surface from oils or other soiling liquids.

Maintenance

Cork is a living material that whitens in sunlight, and is more resistant to footwear than tech or plastic. Stains can be removed with a slightly abrasive sponge, or the entire deck can be sanded for professional use. The cork is 6 mm thick, allowing several years of use.
