Constantly immersed in sea water, the parts of your boat are subject to corrosion. Even if some of them have native protections, they are still affected. When your boat's components come into contact with water (propeller shaft, through-hull...), the appearance of corroded areas is inevitable... or almost. You protect the motor against corrosion with an anode.

What is the purpose of the anode?

The principle of the anode is simple: preserve your boat by sacrificing itself. Indeed, the anode (also called sacrificial anode), will be attacked first. Made of a highly electropositive metal (in this case zinc for sea water), it will supplant the metal objects and be eaten away by corrosion in their place.

Why choose the Torqeedo anode?

It is important to choose the right anode for your boat. The anodes for Cruise 2.0/4.0 R/T/FP are specially designed to fit your motor. They are the result of Torqeedo's expertise and are designed to fit easily into Torqeedo propellers.

When should you change your anode?

On average, an anode should be replaced every three to five years. Since it is designed to be destroyed, you should make sure that it is replaced before it is completely eaten away. You must therefore pay attention to its general condition. You must also make sure that the anode is well attacked by sea water. If after a few weeks of use you do not find any traces on it, contact a solar boat professional. This could mean that the anode is not properly positioned to protect your parts and that they are wearing out despite the anode. On the other hand, if your anode is too affected and disintegrates too quickly, it may indicate an electrolysis problem.
