French Riviera: James Bond villas
Few destinations in the world have had the privilege of hosting 3 James Bonds in such close quarters. There is less than 10 km between Nice and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, yet Sean Connery, David Niven and Roger Moore have all stayed either for personal reasons or for filming. How else can you discover the villas of 007 than by stealth solar boat? This electric boat is perfect for a spy plot as it is silent and odourless. We offer you a rather special cinema route, in pursuit of the James Bonds near Nice, Antibes or Monaco.
Which James Bond actors have lived on the Côte d'Azur?
Sean Connery lived at Le Roc Fleuri...
In the 70s, Sean Connery bought the villa Le Roc Fleuri, in front of the very chic Mont Boron district in Nice. A villa that could have been used as a set for a film shoot. Imagine a 5000 m2 terraced garden, a house with 6 floors on a mountainside. Yet it was with his French wife, Micheline Roquebrune, that Sean Connery liked to stay there peacefully. This year it was put up for sale at .... 30 million euros.
... while he was filming at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothchild
When Sean shot Never Say Never again in 1982, he could almost walk from home to the filming location. The plot takes place in the Villa Ephrussi Rothchsild, another villa, probably the most famous, overlooking the bays of Villefranche and Saint Jean Cap Ferrat for which we have devoted an article.

David Niven lived in The Cape Flower
David Niven is probably the least known of the James Bond types. He filmed outside the franchise in Casino Royal 1967. Today, David Niven is best known for his role in the Pink Panther. But in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, everyone knows him for his Villa la Fleur du Cap, which he lived in until his death. This house with its feet in the water offers an Italian charm with its small private harbour. Many yachtsmen like to anchor in front of the villa in the summer.

Roger Moore was filming at La Voile d'Or
Roger Moore often came to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. He started the Persuaders series here in 1972. It was at the Hôtel de La Voile d'Or, in the company of Tony Curtis. This role propelled him into the character of 007 with Vivre et Laisser Mourir in 1973.

Brad Pit, Angelina Jolie and Octopussy in a very 007 atmosphere
There is no doubt that the Cote d'Azur inspires 7th art actors. But 007 is not the only famous spy of the French Riviera. Let's quote another couple the very special spy, alias Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Indeed, Brad Pit and Angélina Jolie stayed between David Niven's Villa and the Villa Rothchild (Sean Connery) at their friend Paul Allen's house. Moreover, their host Paul Allen was also the proud owner of the Octopus. This super super yacht of more than 100 metres with submarine and helicopters on board was perfect - it was named in honour of the James Bond Octopussy. When Paul Allen was not in his villa or on his yacht, he was working on a project to explore space from a stratospheric aircraft. James Bond just had to behave himself, on the French Riviera, reality exceeds fiction!

If you want to experience the thrill of James Bond, you can also embark on a Private Solar Boat Tour. The seaZen from Beaulieu and since 2016 has already welcomed more than 3500 visitors and still not consumed a kilowatt on the electricity grid. To our knowledge. But that's not all, the Octopus is also a solar boat and it offers sea trips from Antibes Juan Les Pins since this summer. It is a world first. To book, nothing could be simpler, everything is done online from the website.
